St. Alphonsus School Reviews

St. Alphonsus is a wonderful school. I have been an active parent for the last 11 years as my four children have and continue to work their way through the school. Yes, there are families with money, but there are also many families like mine who scrimp, save and forgo vacations to send their children to Catholic schools. Sr. Mariella does an excellent job of running things and students will be expelled if they do not follow the rules. The teachers are very devoted and live their faith. We have a very active PTG and superior athletics. My two older children are at Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic. Thanks to the great 7th and 8th grade teachers, they were more than ready to begin Honors level courses. Admissions directors have stated that students coming from St. Alphonsus are more than prepared for the academic rigors of high school. Overall, we have had a positive experience and I would highly recommend St. Alphonsus.

I have been a St. Alphonsus parent for 14 years and I am very happy with the school. Teachers are hard working and dedicated. Students are challenged and engaged. Families are actively involved in the school. It has been a great community for my children and my family.

Rich kids running amuck. Bullying continues to be a problem. No values taught in the school and there was many numerous disciplinary problems this year that caused several expulsions. Why pay for problems, when the public schools are just as good.

I feel fortunate that my children are having the experience of being a part of an excellent Catholic school like St. Alphonsus. The faculty consists of dedicated, hard working teachers who truly care about the students. The parents are actively involved and our principal is top notch! There are plenty of student activities and sports to choose from. Strong academics, activities and moral values make this school stand out from the rest.

Unbelievable dedication by teachers. As Catholic Schools go the teachers salaries are low. Some teachers have been there so long because of their love to teach. Specialized teachers in music, art, computer & gym make learning complete. Can't praise this school enough, parent involvement at the highest I have ever seen, which makes students value their time at schoool.

No foreign language instruction by a certified foreign language teacher in the lower grades. Not worth what you pay for. Teachers are good to average some need to retire. Mandatory fundraising which is way to high on top of a high tuition rate.

Lets not lose sight that we pay a high tuition rate and should expect nothing less from a Catholic School. This tuition coincides with the public school taxes we pay for schools we don not utilize.

Excellent private education with strong Catholic values. One of the best Kindergarten programs around. Focus on making education interesting in the early years, then drive deep into building knowledge and skills in middle years. Students always score well on national tests. Despite teacher/student rateion, lots of individual attention. Parents are very involved; strong sports program. New addition to school has helped a lot with modern computer, art, music facilities.
