cwr's Bio

Aspiring Autoerotic,,Aggressive Shameless, Outspoken, a Visionary, Insane! Just a few words I ‘ve used to distinguish CWR’s for the pack . I meet CWR( he’s work is more important then his name) just a few years ago, and frankly I was upset by his frank and forward thinking. He stood his ground and frightened me deeply . He nosed any thinking that was self centered and immoral. A simple man wanting nothing more that to discusses what made others “tick..”

I sat in deep green arm chair in his small studio that he plainly called his “lab.”Paper and pencils, paint and canvas laying about. Books and novelties sitting on shelves. National geographics, sketches and rotten apples cluttered the floors He sat high on a old bar stool as he peered at me with those glass cutting eyes. A skinny man with long brittle wild hair. We talked, mostly about me, I’m not sure how it came to me because I was there to interview him? After I left his “lab” I realized I had got nothing for my interview ? CWR had asked all the question and directed all the discussion, so I left with nothing more then I had arrived with. Well I did get something a small morsel of facts that shaped the life of CWR.

CWR is a throw back from a time when men were the head of the house, not in a “leave it to beaver” way but a” hunter and gather ” way .He was strong even in his weakest form caring deeply for family ,Civic duty , greed, pride and the American way. I had stopped by his home to interview him on a tip about a local Veteran giving back to the community in his own silent way. Since it was Veterans day 2005 I thought it would be a nice quick audience.....wrong!!!!!!!!!.

He had been injured in an accident and was left disabled and depressed. He began his creative life carving sticks with razor blades and doodling on note book paper. Soon his creations would grace the homes’s of collector and from South Connellsville Pa to Louisiana from L.A. to Germany. Simple walking sticks donated to the incapacitated. That was my mission, to get a small story about canes and veterans to fill my papers pages. What I realized after just a few hours sitting in his house was that this will be a man that Charles Rose(PBS) will have a special about .I was sitting with a mad man by modern day terms, a violent man that was on a journey that will touch hearts and shake modern thinking many years after his death.

After three years I’ve grown close to CWR. Its strange to befriend a man with no bounders and little shame, however I did after years of discussion convinced him to show the world his visions & convinced him to allow me to post his art on this site. Its wasn’t easy to convince he to do this, he wasn’t concerned about monetary gain ( still is not .) What he was excited about was the adventure of it all. A shock and amaze them type of vision. I had to instill in his mind that if not for the money then do it for the adventure. So I’d like to introduce to you a little knew “Artist” a little known madman.........CWR. I hope you enjoy his vison as much as I have... James F. Uckem
